The data we collect and why
We only collect data you choose to give us, or that is needed to run the site securely:
- Newsletter sign-ups — your name and email address, so we can send you our newsletter. Basis: your consent.
- Contact form — your name, email, subject and message, so we can reply to you. Basis: your consent and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries.
- Reader feedback — your name, an optional email, and your message, sent privately to the author and never published. Basis: your consent.
- Comments (where enabled) — your name, email and comment. Basis: your consent.
- Analytics — we use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used (such as pages viewed, approximate location, and device or browser type). Basis: your consent, given through the cookie banner.
- Web fonts — we use Google Fonts to display the site’s typography, which may transmit your IP address to Google. Basis: our legitimate interest in presenting the site correctly.
- Server logs — our hosting provider automatically records technical data such as IP address, browser type and timestamps, to keep the site secure and running. Basis: our legitimate interest in security and stability.
We do not sell your personal data, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.

Who we share data with
We share data only with the service providers that help us operate the site, under appropriate safeguards:
- Google (Google Analytics and Google Fonts) — analytics and web fonts.
- Our email/newsletter provider — to store the newsletter list and send emails.
- Our hosting provider — to store and serve the website and its data.
Some providers may process data outside your country; where required, we rely on appropriate transfer safeguards.
How long we keep your data
- Newsletter data — until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- Contact and feedback messages — for as long as needed to handle your message and for our reasonable records, then deleted.
- Analytics and server logs — for a limited period set by the respective service or host.
